The 4″ Stars and Stripes Bear Komplex Lifting Belt for use at home was a very good entry-level belt for the home gym user.
Though not really a “power lifter” type belt, this hook and loop secured (Velcro) belt made for easy on and easy off use and initially worked very well for abdominal bracing during squats, overhead press, deadlifts, and when applied higher on the torso, straight-leg deadlift support.
After almost 6 years of use, I am finally getting to the end of the Velcro lifespan as is the case for many hook-and-loop designs.
The 4″ width gave enough support for peace of mind during lighter workouts or when added protection for the lower back (mostly mental) is desired.
For those with a thicker midsection, or for going heavier (2x or more body weight) I would probably go with a traditional leather belt with more secure buckles just for the peace of mind that you are secure.
As with any belt, make sure you are well versed and/or instructed on when, where and why to use the belt to avoid injury. It is important to know how a belt is supposed to feel when properly worn and when you need to make safe adjustments.
